BLACKS PERFORM DURING A PREVIOUS SHOW

Chileka-based reggae group Black Missionaries will start holding shows next weekend.

The group’s lead vocalist and leader, Anjiru Fumulani, confirmed Thursday of the move.

The first show is on June 5 at 24/7 in Blantyre with the second show at Davido in Mangochi the following day and then on June 7 they will be at Ozone Refreshment Centre in Machinjiri, Blantyre.

The reggae-group, said during the shows they will follow all the necessary precautionary measures to make sure that fans are safe.

“We are back on stage next week after being out for close to two months due to Covid-19 pandemic. We have missed the stage but we are mindful that the situation is not 100 percent normal and this is why we are saying we will make sure that we follow the necessary precautionary measures and that is putting up water and soap for people to wash hands and we will also have hand saniters,” Anjiru said.

Artists have been out of the limelight due to a ban on public gatherings of more than 100 people.

Asked on whether they will maintain the less than 100 people during the shows, Anjiru, said they would go with normal shows.

“We cannot restrict people from coming to the show, whether we will have less than 100 people we will go with that and if we will have more than that we have no problem. What we will be strict with is having people wash their hands and putting on masks to be safe,” he said.

Blacks’ return to the stage comes barely two weeks after Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) held a press briefing in Blantyre calling upon the government to assist musicians, who the body indicated were struggling to feed their families in the absence of live performances.

Another group of Active concerned musicians also held a press conference in Lilongwe where it announced that musicians would be returning to the stage soon.

The group recently also said that their Kuimba 19 project will come out later this year despite being affected by the pandemic.

Black Missionaries is also set to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.

The country has registered over 100 cases of the pandemic which continues to claim lots of lives globally.
